The corresponding figures with the automatic gearbox are 4.1 l/100km and 109 g/km (preliminary figures). To emphasise the scale of the engineers’ achievement, this is the same CO2 emission level for Volvo’s largest saloon as for the company’s smallest car, the C30 DRIVe, only three years ago.

The S80 with the 1.6-litre GTDi (Gasoline Turbocharged Direct Injection) engine T4 (180 hp) and automatic gearbox has fuel a consumption of 7.1 l/100km (165 g/km). The corresponding figure for the V70 T4 is 7.2 l/100 km (168 g/km).

The European production version of the all-new EcoSport will be equipped with Ford SYNC voice-activated in-car connectivity system as well as SYNC Emergency Assistance. In addition, the compact SUV will be one of the first Ford vehicles in Europe to offer Ford SYNC AppLink, which enables customers to voice-control smartphone apps from the driver’s seat.

The SUV’s distinctive front grille, short bonnet and raked front pillars, deliver a sporty and contemporary feel, and angular headlamps reinforce the modern look. It will also offer a comprehensive package of driver assistance technologies including Electronic Stability Program and Hill Launch Assist.

The 2014 Acura RLX is larger than the previous RL model in several key exterior dimensions, including width, wheelbase, and front and rear track. The wheelbase, at 112.2 inches, is two inches longer than the previous RL model, providing more rear passenger room and improving the ride quality in the process. At 74.4 inches wide, the Acura RLX is also a substantial 1.7 inches wider than the previous RL model.

The 2014 Acura RLX interior is an all-new design that combines welcoming five-passenger comfort with by far the most luxury and technology ever offered in an Acura. Rated at 310 horsepower and 272 lb.-ft. of torque (SAE net), the V-6 powerplant in the Acura RLX develops an additional 10 horsepower and 1 lb.-ft. of torque compared to the 3.7-liter engine equipped in the RL. For exceptional drivability, the RLX’s new 3.5-liter engine produces in excess of 90 percent of its peak torque over a very broad range of engine speeds, from 2,000 rpm to 6,600 rpm.

In spite of the peak horsepower increase, the new engine has impressive EPA- fuel economy ratings for a luxury sedan, with ratings of 20 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. The 3.5-liter engine meets the stringent ULEV-2 California Air Resources Board (CARB) emissions rating.

The Acura RLX and RLX with Navigation grades feature 7-spoke 18×8J noise-reducing alloy wheels while the Technology, Krell Audio and Advance grades feature larger 19×8J noise-reducing alloy wheels. The special noise-reducing design lowers tire noise by 7-decibels across the audible frequency range.

The Alfa Romeo 4C derives directly from the concept which raised many eyebrows in wonder at the Geneva Show in 2011, designed by Alfa Romeo engineers and produced in the Maserati plant in Modena, the new compact supercar will be available for purchase in 2013, marking the return of the Italian brand to the United States and inaugurating Alfa Romeo’s global growth plan.

The tailgate on the world’s first diesel plug-in hybrid still displays the D6 AWD badge, hinting at the high levels of performance under its skin. The front wheels are powered by a five-cylinder 2.4-litre turbodiesel engine producing 215 hp and maximum torque of 440 Nm, all conveyed through six-speed automatic transmission.

The rear axle is powered by an electric motor producing 70 hp and 200 Nm. The electric motor is supplied with power from an 11.2 kWh lithium-ion battery pack installed under the floor of the load compartment.

The driver selects the required driving mode via three buttons that give the car three entirely different temperaments: Pure, Hybrid or Power. In Pure mode, the car is powered solely by its electric motor as much as possible. The range is up to 50 kilometres. Hybrid is the standard setting whenever the car is started. The diesel engine and electric motor cooperate to achieve CO2 emissions (NEDC, mixed driving cycle for certification) of 48 g/km (1.8 l/100km). In Power mode, the technology is optimised to give the car the maximum possible power. The diesel engine and electric motor combine to deliver a total power output of 215+70 hp and maximum torque of over 600 Nm. The car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds.

The V60 Plug-in Hybrid also comes with an additional Hybrid Theme with blue illumination. It includes hybrid and battery information that supports energy-efficient use of the ingenious driveline.

The Carlsson Mercedes-Benz CK63 RSR reaches 100km/h from rest in just 3.9 seconds, passing 200km/h in 11.6 seconds on its way to a calculated top speed of 340 km/h. The CK63 RSR uses a specially developed high performance stainless steel sports exhaust incorporating 200-cell metal catalytic converters to further reduce back-pressure. This exhaust system also incorporates an electronically controlled sound valve, giving the driver the choice of a near standard sound level for civilized progress through urban areas, or a full-on, snarling muscle car V8 experience at the touch of a button.

The CK63 RSR uses Carlsson’s bespoke height adjustable coil-overs with 10-position bounce and rebound adjustment to cover road or track use. The car is normally set 30mm lower than standard for road use, and the front track has been widened by 25mm with spacers for better turn-in and stability in the bends.

Apart from giving a car its first glance eye appeal, alloy wheels also contribute to lower unsprung weight. The elegant and sporty one-piece Carlsson 1/10 alloy wheels come in a choice of 19 or 20-inch diameters to best cope with the road surfaces across different markets.

The CK63 RSR is fast and heavy, so Carlsson use 405mm diameter vented discs clamped by six-pot calipers fitted with their heavy-duty brake pads in front. The rear brakes are standard AMG, with uprated pads. Steel-braided hoses are used all round, while front brake cooling is boosted by a ram-air duct system built into the Carlsson front bumper.

The choice of all-wheel-drive MINI models is poised for further expansion in March 2013. That’s when the MINI Paceman will be launched, boosting to eight the number of models available with ALL4 as standard or as an option. The first Sports Activity Coupé in the premium compact segment sees ALL4 optionally teaming up with the diesel engines in the MINI Cooper SD Paceman (105 kW/143 hp) and MINI Cooper D Paceman (82 kW/112 hp), as well as the petrol unit under the bonnet of the MINI Cooper S Paceman (135 kW/184 hp). Also primed for action is the MINI John Cooper Works Paceman. Fitted with the all-wheel-drive system as standard, it converts the power of its 160 kW/218 hp, race-developed engine into extreme driving fun with supreme assurance in any situation. All models come as standard with a six-speed manual gearbox, while a six-speed automatic can be ordered as an option.

All of which means ALL4 can now offer drivers of eight MINI models a noticeable boost to traction, directional stability and agility through corners. With four all-wheel-drive variants and the choice between manual or automatic gearboxes, the MINI Countryman makes its own contribution to the impressive variety of the brand’s ALL4 range. ALL4 is available as an option for the MINI Cooper S Countryman, MINI Cooper SD Countryman and MINI Cooper D Countryman, while the MINI John Cooper Works Countryman sends its eye-catching power through all four wheels as standard.

ALL4 was developed specially for MINI models and, since its introduction in 2010, has broken new ground and won over additional target groups. The all-wheel-drive system uses an electromagnetic centre differential to distribute drive seamlessly between the front and rear axles. In normal driving situations ALL4 diverts up to 50 per cent of the engine’s power to the rear wheels, rising to as much as 100 per cent in extreme conditions, such as on ice and snow-covered surfaces. The control electronics of the MINI ALL4 system are integrated directly into the DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) management unit, enabling drive to be channelled through the wheels as required in a matter of milliseconds.

Volkswagen Golf R Cabriolet tremendous propulsive power is generated by a 2.0-litre turbo engine with direct petrol injection (TSI) that develops 195 kW / 265 PS. Since the open-top sports car already has lots of power at the lowest revs, and the engine very seldom needs to rev fast, fuel consumption is lower than would be expected for such a high powered car: 8.2 l/100 km (equivalent to 190 g/km CO2).

The exceptionally sporty and well-equipped Golf R Cabriolet will cost 43,325 euros in its domestic market of Germany.

The new Volvo V70′s rear features a new rear bumper, tailpipes and added chrome details as well as redesigned rear lights. The car is also available with wheels up to 19 inches in diameter.

The Chevrolet SS is powered by the LS3 Chevrolet V-8, expected to deliver 415 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque. The LS3 displaces 6.2 liters, more than the 5.5-liter V-8 powering the Chevrolet SS NASCAR competitors.

The LS3 is married to a six-speed automatic transmission, which can be shifted manually using the shift paddles mounted on the steering wheel. With an aggressive 3.27 final-drive ratio, the Chevrolet SS accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in about five seconds – making it one of the quickest sedans on the market.

The staggered front and rear wheels, which are pushed out to the corners, enhance the sporting, muscular stance of the SS. Up front, the aluminum hood features a subtle “power bulge” hinting at the power of the engine underneath. At the rear, the tapered, tear-drop shape contributes to improved aerodynamic performance. Premium cues include jewel-like chrome accents, standard high-intensity discharge headlamps and light-emitting diode daytime running lights.

The spacious interior of the SS will comfortably accommodate five adults, with 42 inches of front legroom, and 39 inches of rear legroom. Leather seating surfaces are standard, as are eight-way power adjustable front bucket seats with additional side bolstering that hug the driver and front passenger in tight-handling situations. The SS emblem is prominently stitched onto the soft-touch instrument panel which features two types of chrome finishes – a satin gloss and a bright chrome. At night, the interior is illuminated by ice blue ambient lighting.

The Mazda 5 brought dual sliding back doors to the world of compact vans can now be had in three new body colours – Zeal Red, Jet Black and Meteor Grey. On the inside, meanwhile, there is new seat trim along with the dashboard panel décor in a clean, sleek looking piano black finish.

Already one of the world’s safest and most driver-oriented vans, the upgraded Mazda 5 has also been given power folding side mirrors with integrated LED turn signals. And to make driving just a little easier, Mazda has added “lane change” turn signals, which are activated by simply tapping the turn signal lever and automatically shut off after blinking three times.

The tire repair kit, meanwhile, makes the Mazda 5 even lighter, which saves fuel. Newly available options include a rear parking camera and auto-dimming rear-view mirror, while a USB port, illuminated glovebox and muffler extension are all standard equipment.

Set to debut at the New York International Auto Show in March, the all-new 2014 Jeep Cherokee sets a new standard with even more best-in-class capability, exemplary on-road driving dynamics, and fuel economy improvements of more than 45 percent versus the outgoing mid-size SUV model.

The all-new 2014 Jeep Cherokee will be built in the United States at Chrysler Group’s Toledo Assembly Plant in Toledo, Ohio, and will arrive in dealer showrooms in the third quarter of this year.

Three engine options will be offered, with CO2 outputs from as low as 95g/km. Nissan’s intelligent stop-start ignition system is fitted to all models, further boosting efficiency and minimising CO2 emissions.

Both new Note petrol engines displace 1,198cc and are lightweight, compact and highly efficient three-cylinder 12-valve units. The imbalances that can often be highlighted in a three-cylinder engine have been overcome with the introduction of a number of engineering innovations. These include an offset counterweight on the crank pulley that cancels out the vertical vibration caused by piston travel. As a result, this advanced engine enjoys the same refinement levels of a four-cylinder unit.

The entry-level 1.2-litre produces power and torque figures of 80PS at 6,000 rpm and 110Nm at 4,000 rpm. This translates to combined fuel economy of 60.1mpg, while CO2 emissions are 109g/km.

Further up the range is the innovative 1.2-litre DIG-S engine that generates 98PS at 5,600 rpm and 142Nm of torque at 4,400 rpm. This advanced engine offers the economy of a traditional diesel, but delivers a driving experience normally associated with a mid-size, four-cylinder petrol engine. Among the many technical highlights of this engine is the supercharger. Equipped with an electronic clutch system, it can be disconnected from the engine while driving at low speeds – boosting economy and reducing any unnecessary friction within the engine.

Completing the Note engine range is a newly engineered four-cylinder 1.5-litre turbo diesel. This 90PS Renault-Nissan Alliance developed unit emits just 95g/km of CO2 and offers a combined fuel economy figure of 78.5mpg.

The front view is identical to the new hatch. The clearly structured side view of the new Skoda Octavia Combi works through a dynamically flowing silhouette. Additionally, the closed, clear-cut side graphic is distinctively emphasized by the high Tornado line. The roofline of the Combi slopes gently towards the rear and passes elegantly over into the D-pillar.
