Curtain Raiser: 2012 Porsche 911 Cabriolet
Porsche’s Research and Development Chief, Wolfgang Durheimer, had revealed last year that they were on their way to launch a new gen car and the finer details would be disclosed later. Now we have confirmed the news with the images of prototypes that were seen being tested on the streets of Germany. It reveals the looks of the upcoming 998 911 Carrera Cabriolet, which is due to debut in 2011 or 2012.
Wolfgang Durheimer had claimed that the new car would be much more competent, sexier and even more unique. Porsche is leaving no stone unturned to make this new edition car the ultimate choice of all car aficionados. The new project which is termed as ‘project 911’ internally will see major changes under the hood, as well as feature a stunning body style.

Images reflect clear differences between the existing 997 and the new edition. The 998 edition features a slightly longer body with upright headlights. The side mirrors are placed at the side of the door instead of the windows. The longer body will entice a striking nose section of the car which would offer a larger and more collapsible bumper section. To provide aerodynamic improvement, the rear end of the car is also changed.
The new edition is expected to be crafted using light weight carbon fiber materials and active aerodynamics. It is presumed that the new edition would feature adjustable front and rear spoilers and dynamically opening and closing air intakes.
Porsche has still not disclosed any details about the powertrain but it is expected that they would make changes which would offer better emissions and increased fuel efficiency. However at this point of time we are all speculating the best options that we can foresee. We have to wait Porsche discloses finer details.
Till then keep wired for more updates.
