Audi A1 microsite hints at possible U.S. availability

Friday, 12 February 2010

Audi has repeatedly stated that its recently unveiled A1 premium small car will not be sold in the United States, but a new A1 contest microsite seems to indicate the German automaker’s smallest offering could be available on our shores.

Although far from an official confirmation, the United States is included as an available region on the A1’s latest customizer microsite. The site allows you to virtually customize the A1 with several design features, with the selected winner of the design contest slated to take home a free Audi A1.

As the winner of the contest will receive an all-new A1 courtesy of Audi, it would seem strange that the German automaker would target regions that are not in line to sell the new city car. However, the inclusion of the United States could just be an error on Audi’s part as a few other questionable regions – such as Cuba – also show up on the site’s option list.

Whether the A1 will be sold in the U.S. remains to be seen, but at least we get a crack at designing the would-be MINI rival.
